Leslie Romero is a member of fsociety. He is played by Ron Cephas Jones.
Background
Romero was likely born sometime in the mid to late 1960s. He began hacking in 1988, giving him 27 years of experience. In 2008, he was arrest for phreaking, committing toll fraud for free phone calls. He is released in 2014. By December of that year, he is squatting in the abandoned Fun Society arcade on Coney Island. When Mobley approaches him to rent the place, Romero recounts the building's grisly and haunted past. It’s a tale of one murder after another over a period of many decades. A husband killing his family. A son killing his father and then falling out of a window, while his twin brother is arrested for the crime. Regardless, Mobley secures the arcade for fsociety, recruiting Romero in the process.
While not doing work for fsociety, Romero grows plants which he uses to create various fragrances for body lotions infused with THC. He rolls joints for his arthritis stricken mother, whom he lives with.
2015
Season 1
In February, Romero opens the door to the arcade when Elliot Alderson enters after the attack on E Corp's servers, but doesn't say a word. He congratulates him for his success in framing Terry Colby.
In March, Romero does recon on the Steel Mountain facility. He discovers that E Corp is increasing security, making physical copy of their data and shipping it to different facilities across the country. He brings the issue to the group on the 29th when Elliot returns to fsociety
Romero is hesitant about the plan to infiltrate Steel Mountain by April 1st and coordinating with the Dark Army, calling the plan "shit." He is takes issue with Elliot's withdrawal symptoms, saying he doesn't trust him. The team goes ahead anyway. Romero and Mobley steal a minivan and bring Elliot. They are forced to divert to a motel when Elliot gets too sick. Romero denounces the movie Hackers playing on TV. His patience grows thin and he angrily leaves the room.
Once Elliot is functional, Romero and Mobley coach him in getting past the human weaknesses of Steel Mountain. The team is successful, but when Darlene informs them that the Dark Army has pulled out, fsociety disbands.
In May, Romero pulls a gun on Mr. Robot when he finds him at his house, thinking he was a high schooler stealing something. He refuses his request to come back to the group, citing his thriving business of THC infused lotion. Mr. Robot points Romero's gun in his face and leaves, telling him he'll see him back at the arcade.
After the 5/9 hack, Romero helps burn the equipment with the rest of the team. He later attends the End of the World Party at the arcade.
Season 2
In June, Romero is found dead at the backyard of the house that he has been living with his old mother, by Mobley. The fatal wound is located at the back of his head, probably a short-distance gunshot. The FBI investigate the murder when a printed list of FBI agents is found at the crime scene. Dominique DiPierro is the lead investigator.She finds a flyer for the End of the World Party,listing the address of the arcade.
Romero's computer has modified ports, so that all unauthorized access would automatically be detected and the data contained at its hard drives would be destroyed. When an FBI agent tries to plug a forensics tool in one of the ports, there is a small thermite ignition that produces high intensity flame and burns the hard drives. This technique of protection was conceived either by Romero himself or his killer.
